IT was the end of an era as a Uttoxeter book sale which has raised thousands for charity opened its doors for the last time.

Crowds flocked to the St John Ambulance Hall to grab themselves a bargain book at the last ever Lions book sale, which has been run by Mick and Sue Crisp for the last eight years.

Over the years they have raised more than £6,500 for local causes through the Uttoxeter Lions but the rise of e-books and charity shops have hit sales.

Mr Crisp said: "We got rid of a load of the books. "It was like how it used to be and if we were taking this much every time then we would have kept it going.

"The sale was definitely the end of an era for us."
