Video: John Innes live in Stafford

Written byAndrew Watt

"Scotland's finest tenor", John Innes, appeared in Stafford town centre promoting his work today.

Following 15 years as a saxophonist, John decided to embark on a singing career at the age of 28, moving to London and training at The Opera Studio based at Morley College.

In November 2008, he hired the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, hopeful that the same people who supported him in the public arena would turn out to support him in the theatre. The concert exceeded his expectations and sold out 2 weeks early. The audience gave him a standing ovation and the profits from the show helped to fund his debut album.

Operating without a recording contract, John hired the creative team behind Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson and Hayley Westenra, and recorded his first album "On the Street Where You Live" with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a former solder whose brother is still serving with The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, he decided to produce a charity album to raise money for "Help for Heroes" in 2009.
