Wasps can’t find sting as Spartans battle to a point

ROCESTER Wasps drew 0-0 with Barton Rovers Spartans in their final game of the Burton & District Junior League Under-11 Division One.

The draw means the Wasps finish in fourth spot, with Barton unable to catch them despite having two matches left.

Rocester were under pressure from the outset against the visitors, who looked bright in midfield.

In the opening 10 minutes, Barton had numerous attacks down the right and delivered some quality crosses into the penalty area but these were well dealt with by Magnus Brown, George Walker and Archie Hill at the far post.

Barton had a couple of half chances but keeper Jenson Bosworth was comfortable in goal.

Wasps strugged to get a handle on the game until midway through the half when Max Hunt began to drop into the hole between midfield and attack.

He was able to collect the ball, making some mazy runs and finding strike partner Kieran Swinson.

Unfortunately, despite a little bit more of the ball Rocester were unable to test the Barton keeper.

Brown then hit his own bar as he got a head to a Barton free kick.

Minutes later he headed just over at the other end as Rocester pressed.

Wasps had more of the ball in the second half and Charlie Cope got clear in a one-on-one with the Barton keeper, only for his effort to be saved.

He then headed a Hunt cross just wide after a flowing Rocester move.

Barton’s best chances again came from set pieces but Wasps defended them solidly to draw 0-0.

It was a slightly disappointing end to what has been a wonderful season for Wasps, securing fourth place in the league and reaching the league cup final.

George Walker was man of the match for his resolute defending.
