UTTOXETER Leisure Centre could be given a new name as council chiefs ask the townsfolk what they would like it to be called.
East Staffordshire Borough Council is currently in the process of a complete redevelopment of the Oldfields Road centre, which will see the site closed until early 2015.
However, the authority is now considering possibly renaming the facility and residents are being asked what they think and to come up with any names if they would like to see it changed to.
A consultation has now been launched throughout May giving residents, schools and stakeholders the opportunity to either vote in favour or oppose a possible name change.
Those who vote in favour of a new name can then suggest any new alternatives they may have.
All votes and suggested names will be collected and a decision will be announced in June 2014.
Mark Rizk, the council’s shared services manager for leisure, culture and sport, said: “After all the surveys have been returned, they will then go through the process and the deputy leader will make a decision from the names put forward.
“We are asking people whether they want to keep the name or change it and then it will go through the democratic process. We did a similar thing at Meadowside, in Burton.”
The survey is now available online at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk, by visiting the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre Facebook page, or in person by visiting the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre site office.
Local schools, stakeholders and customers on Uttoxeter Leisure Centres email database will be contacted directly with copies of the survey.
All surveys need to be returned to the authority before Friday, May 31.
Work to demolish the old centre, which was built in 1985, has now been completed and workmen are busy returning items to their rightful places.
They are also putting in the framework for the roof on the pool and putting in the foundations for the new spectator seating area.
