Uttoxeter tourism campaign kicks off with a week of special offers

A CAMPAIGN to promote tourism in Uttoxeter is taking shape around town, with 21 town traders signing up to provide one-off special offers during a music festival.

Flyers for the Light Up Uttoxeter campaign designed by A-Level Art pupil Ella Kasperowicz are appearing around town in shop windows alongside guitars to indicate which shops are running a special offer for the week of the Acoustic Festival, at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

Thousands will descend upon Uttoxeter for the weekend May 30 until June 1 and the Uttoxeter Town Team, which is promoting tourism in town with the Light Up Uttoxeter campaign, is keen to make sure retailers take advantage of the extra footfall with offers to entice new customers.

Dr Graeme Jones, chairman of the Uttoxeter Town Team, said: “When I first saw Ella’s drawings I realised how special they were and I was delighted when she generously offered them for our use.

“We decided that the launch for the Light Up Uttoxeter campaign should be combined with the Acoustic Festival when there is a large influx of visitors to Uttoxeter.”

The special offers will take place between May 22 and May 31.

In addition on May 30 and May 31, there will be free live entertainment in the Market Place as an extension of the festival in the town centre.

A social media campaign is also going on the Facebook and Twitter pages to further promote town traders at www.facebook.com/lightuputtoxeter and www.twitter.com/LightUpUttox

Ella Kasperowicz is a Year 13 student at Alleyne’s and a Saturday shop assistant in Friary Shoes on the High Street. She has recently secured a place on the Illustrators course at Falmouth School of Art.

She said: “I love Uttoxeter and think it is a great place to live and shop.

“I was inspired by the beautiful architecture in the town and decided that I would go out and sketch as many of the town centre buildings as I could.

“I then came up with the idea of the ‘Light up Uttoxeter’ campaign to try to stimulate more trade in the town.”
