TWO Uttoxeter rockers are preparing to tour the UK for the second time with a top American alternative rock band as their success continues to grow.
Blame will be joining LIT throughout this month to hit seven venues across the country from Glasgow to Reading.
In a busy year for the duo - with guitarist James Brighouse and Sam Johnson on vocals and guitar - they are currently working with the ‘Godfather of Grunge’, engineer and owner of the now legendary Seattle-based studio Reciprocal Recordings.
Brighouse told The Advertiser: “Needless to say, we’re excited, this is our second full UK tour in a little over 12 months.
“I grew up listening to LIT, when I heard we’d been invited out to support I was overjoyed. For us, touring is a great way to see old friends whilst making new fans.
“There’s a lot of hard work goes into planning the shows and practising the material but the benefits are many and varied.
“Not only do we get to take our music to new cities and fresh venues, but we also get to see one of our favourite bands bring the house down each and every night.”
The two men sought inspiration from records of their youth and the bands that drew them in while they were growing up in Uttoxeter.
Disillusioned with contemporary commerce and its negative sway on the musicians around them, Blame set out to capture a sound that would feed their teenage souls.
With financial win and lust for fame cast from their agenda Blame were free to craft the score they believed to be missing from modern rock. 2013 saw Blame score two top 10 (UK rock chart) singles, a top 20 ‘Spotify Recommended’ independent debut album, a wealth of positive press, international radio play and a sold out UK tour with multi platinum US rockers Everclear.
Johnson added: “It’s great to be personally invited onto tours by such big names. It means a lot because we’re not a fashion based band either, we’re not attempting to be ‘emo’ or ‘pop punk’, we just write what we write and hope people like it.
“So it means even more to me when we do get offers like this, from LIT and last year from Everclear, because what we write is genuinely ‘us’ and not just what we think people want to hear. It’s no frills rock.”
Blame will be accompanied on the next tour by musicians James Miller and Toby Caffery.
Reciprocal produced key releases by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and Hole and Blame is also working with photographer/videographer Tony Wooliscroft (official photographer for Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Faith No More and official videographer to The 1975 and Jimmy Eat World).
LIT formed in 1988 in California and their hits include My Own Worst Enemy, Miserable, Zip-Lock and Over My Head.
