"WE WERE the better side for 75 minutes insisted Uttoxeter Town manager Mark Grimley after Saturday's Leek Cup quarter-final exit to higher league Ball Haye Green.

Liam Sowter and Lee Bagley had twice put Town ahead. But the Uttoxeter outfit, who had defender Dom Ward sent off on 35 minutes, conceded twice inside the last 15 minutes to suffer a cruel defeat.

"Baggo scored for us and then hit the post - if that goes in then it's a different story," said Grimley. "The thing is, we are playing against teams each week who are going to give us chances. When you play sides like Ball Haye you know you have to put your chances away. The difference was they put their chances away and we didn't."

The Town boss had no complaints about the dismissal of Potts. He added: "It was a sending off all day long. But he will learn from it. Dom has done really well this season and will save us more times than not.

"Now we want to end 2012 unbeaten in the league. That's the short-term aim.

"We got some good comments from them (Ball Haye) on Saturday. One of them was 'you will be a top three team when you get promoted next season'. But it's easy to say that when you have just won a game. But the way we played, our ability to pass the ball on a very tricky surface was excellent to watch.

"It was good to see how far away we are - and we are not a million miles away. We have now got to produce that level every week between now and the end of the season."
