A CHARITY walk staged by a Uttoxeter community group has proved a ‘great success’.
Sun blazed down on participants to the Uttoxeter Rotary Club Walk for Your Charity event held on Sunday at the Wootton Lodge Estate in Oakamoor.
Almost 250 entrants took part in the walk around the estate, many taking on the challenge of the five-mile route.
Andrew Griffiths MP showed his support on the shorter 2.5-mile route, which had the benefit of scores of rhododenderon and azaela bushes along the valley leading to Canada Lake.
More than 40 charities were represented, many being local such as Rakemark Respite, Katherine House, Donna Louise, Staffordshire Air Ambulance.
Careline excelled with more than 30 Walkers.
Sponsorship for the charites is still being collected and indications are that the total amount raised will be in excess of £5,500.
President Cliff Cotterill said: “My sincere thanks go to everyone who supported us on the walk, and to the Rotarians who put in the time and effort to make it such a success.
“This was a new venture for us and to have raised such a significant sum is really gratifying.”
Andrew Griffiths tweeted: “Can there be a more beautiful countryside than Staffordshire?”
