A UTTOXETER slimming coach has reported a ‘significant increase’ in new members for January, as Uttoxeter folk set themselves New Year challenges.

Dolly Lowdnes holds three Slimming World sessions every week at Wilfred House in Uttoxeter, and has seen a tenfold increase in new members signing up to shed the pounds for the New Year.

She said: “There has been a significant increase in people joining up for January - we’ve kept a lot of members on and there has been a real surge in new people joining.

“In December 2013 I only had nine new members, whereas in January I saw 90 new members join up and in February, I had 48. In January the combined weight loss was 70.5 stone.

“We have three classes, and our new starters are doing really well so far, some of them have lost a stone already which is fantastic.”

One new member, Sara Hellier, of Draycott-in-the-Clay said: “I re-joined Slimming World after a three-year break. I relocated to this area last year and in the new year was determined to lose weight so I looked up my nearest group online.

“My first group was January 11 and I was really surprised at how big the group was, everyone was really friendly. A good group makes such a difference. “The group sessions are fun and motivating. I’ve been losing an average of two pounds per week which is my target.

“I love that there is no weighing or measuring and nothing is banned, chocolate and wine are still part of my diet.

“I love the fact that it doesn’t really feel like I am on a diet, I can eat decent sized portions of the right food and not feel hungry at all which is a problem with other diets. I’ve started cooking from scratch and my husband likes that he gets a break from cooking.

“I have got about another two stone to lose but I feel great already, my clothes are a size smaller and I have more energy which the dogs are appreciating.”

Matthew Dodge, 41, said: “I’ve lost one and a half stone in seven weeks in what I don’t call a diet anymore it’s just healthy eating. You’re made to feel welcome from the moment you walk in and I feel fantastic so far.”
