THE uncharted waters of Midlands Two await Uttoxeter Ladies after they clinched the Feeder West title in style on Saturday with a 5-0 mauling of rock bottom Hampton-in-Arden.
Uttoxeter’s task had been made easier after second-placed Stone drew with Birdgnorth earlier in the day, meaning only a point was required to secure top spot.
The league leaders dominated from the off at Hampton, with the visiting midfield allowed to run at the defence and pick out passes to the waiting forwards.
Numerous chances went begging in the early stages, with the Hampton keeper pulling off some impressive saves.
Uttoxeter continued to pile on the pressure and the opener arrived courtesy of the league’s top scorer Jo Rea.
Rea took possession at the top of the D from a penalty corner, before drilling the ball beyond the Hampton keeper.
The floodgates then opened with the Thomas Alleyne’s outfit continuing to play some impressive hockey.
An incredible solo effort from Emily Cann followed.
She picked the ball up on halfway and weaved past numerous Hampton defenders.
Cann continued to hold off would-be tacklers before slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper.
Rea scored her second of the day from open play soon after.
And her second gave a confident Uttoxeter a 3-0 lead at half time.
After the break, the solid Uttoxeter defence maintained their season-long fantastic form to keep Hampton at bay.
The visitors’ fourth came from a free pass taken by Rachel Vernon, who switched play to the onrushing Lisa lilley who drilled the ball into the D.
The pass was met by Anna Young who found the back of the net with a first-time finish,
Rea completed the rout with another goal from a penalty corner routine to complete her hat-trick – before the celebrations began in earnest.
