PLANS to infil waste at Uttoxeter Golf Club which had caused anger among neighbours have been withdrawn, the Advertiser can reveal.

The proposals by the Wood Lane club to make health and safety improvements by infilling around 30,000 cubic metres of landfill saw councillors, residents and the town MP object.

Most of the objections related to the proposed lorry movements to transport the waste to the site, as well as what was perceived as a lack of consultation.

Chairman of Uttoxeter Golf Club told the Advertiser that following the concerns expressed by some of the neighbours, the board of directors would ‘review their plans’ but will resubmit ‘simplified’ plans in the near future.

He said: “It was never the intention to cause any distress or disruption to the locality and the scale of the plans had been grossly exaggerated.

“Uttoxeter Golf Club is a local club set up by like-minded people to create a facility for Uttoxeter and the surrounding area that is totally run and supported by members and with the view that only the club would benefit from any enhancements or surplus.

“In the New Year, following full consultation with our neighbours, local businesses and councillors, we will produce a simplified scheme, which will allow the club to move forward.

“The course will be made safer by infilling just the very dangerous ravines and this will help to making the golf course less difficult for potential new/learner golfers.

“We would welcome anyone to come along and have a conducted tour of the golf course to see what a great facility is on the doorstep.”

Mr Trumper added that the club could suffer if it did not continue to try and make the club more appealing to potential members.

He said: “If we were unable to make the course appealing to a greater membership, it could have an adverse effect. The club is a registered charity (CASC), which means that we offer a variety of membership schemes.”

“As an example, five day membership from £250 and a seven day from £299. Junior membership is £60 but there is a special deal if joining with a parent/grandparent. Special reduced full memberships for the 18 to 30-year-olds and students in full time education irrespective of age are also available.

“Our club professional Adam McCandless is a well-respected teacher of golf and he taught a local lad who has won on the European Tour and other world events beating the likes of Tiger Woods. For any information or lessons please call Adam on 01889 566552.”
