FUTURE entrepreneurs from a Uttoxeter school have come over all nostalgic as they were crowned Company of the Year.
It was a night of success for the Nostalgia team from Thomas Alleyne’s High School at the Young Enterprise Area Finals 2014 as they won East Staffordshire Company of the Year at Burton Town Hall.
The team, led by managing director Oliver Marriott, scooped four of the six available awards, with their range of celebratory cards, scented candles and cushions – all with a nostalgic twist.
Nostalgia’s prize is to go on and represent East Staffordshire in the County Finals on Thursday, May 8 to be held at The Wedgewood Centre at Barlaston, followed by Regional and National Finals.
Mr Marriott said: “We took a different approach with our product. Our research showed that we could improve our corporate design and presentation.
“We used the Trade Fair in Coopers Square, back in February, to launch an extended range of products. They sold out on the day, so we had real confidence that we had a winning product.”
More than 100 parents, friends and families joined the 40 plus team members from the four schools who had won their way through to this Area Final which is the stepping stone on the way to the County and Regional Finals.
Judge Darren Faulkner, of Magfern Estates, said: “Nostalgia’s presentation of the night was highly engaging and informative, with just the right balance of detail. You could see that team is confident about its products.”
Andy Luffman, chairman of East Staffordshire Young Enterprise, congratulated all four finalists on the quality of their plans, business reports and high standard of presentations.
He added: “Young Enterprise sets a big challenge to all the pupils who take part in this annual competition. It’s encouraging that a large number of local schools continue to participate in the programme and we are encouraging more to join Young Enterprise 2014-2015 that starts in September.”
JCB Academy also took away the award for Best Company Report.
The winning Team in the national finals will visit Estonia in the summer to take part in the Continental Finals.
