UTTOXETER HC ladies continued their bright start to the season by sealing a victory over Bridgnorth in their first away game of the season.
They got off to a steady start while trying to come to terms with the slow pace of the pitch, which made quick interchanges of play difficult.
However Uttoxeter maintained their early possession and patiently built from the back.
The breakthrough came midway through the first half when a shot from Jo Rae was saved and rebounded into the path of Laura Sims, who calmly finished from close range.
Bridgnorth tried to react and draw level, but the solid Uttoxeter defence kept them at bay, taking them into the break 1-0 up.
In the second half, the visitors went from strength to strength with improved linking play and a much stronger desire than the hosts to win every tackle.
The good work was soon rewarded by Sims, who nicked the ball off a Bridgnorth defender in the D and coolly finished with a straight strike into the bottom left corner.
Uttoxeter were relentless and continued to pile on the pressure.
It was not long before Rae got on the scoresheet when she finished off some fantastic build-up play by the midfield, taking the score to a comfortable 3-0.
However, Uttoxeter were still not finished and Rae rounded off a strong performance when she received the ball from Caroline Lawson at the top of the D and finished with a drilled ball past the flapping keeper.
A dip in concentration in the final five minutes allowed Bridgnorth to score and the game ended 4-1.
Two wins in two puts Uttoxeter at the top of the Midlands Feeder West League.
Next week they travel to Sutton Coldfield.
