REIGNING champions Hilton Harriers Jets were forced to work hard for their 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Rocester Wasps.
Jets enjoyed much of the early possession but could not find a way beyond man-of-the-match Magnus Brown and Ben Simon in defence.
When Jets did create an opportunity Jenson Bosworth saved well. More chances followed but the Wasps defence remained firm.
With five first-half minutes remaining Hilton took the lead, firing past the helpless Bosworth.
Almost immediately Rocester had a great opportunity to equalise when a Charlie Cope ball found Swinson who beat his man before his shot from just outside the area smashed the underside of the crossbar to rebound clear.
Midway through the second half Wasps, with Ben Simon adding steel and bite in midfield, had another good chance when Max Hunt found Kieran Swinson who raced through but failed to get his shot away.
With 10 minutes remaining Hilton scored again when a cross that found an unmarked player was slotted home from a narrow angle off the far post.
In the final few minutes Swinson had a shot blocked. And from the rebound Cope’s long-range effort was headed clear.
