THE Bulls Head Marchington conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 at Fulford in the first match of the Uttoxeter & District Sunday League Division One season.
After a bright start to the game, both teams tested each other out, with Adam Johnson called upon on a number of occasions in the Marchington goal to keep the scores level.
Some good interplay down the left between Petr Severa and Chris Richards on 10 minutes saw a ball put through for lone striker Alex Langridge, who fired wide.
On the quarter-hour, the Fulford winger got in behind the Bull defence but his lob went over.
Fulford started to take command of the game and their big No10 went close, forcing a tremendous save from Johnson.
The Bull came back into the game and forced a few free kicks around the Fulford box.
Just after the half-hour, another such free kick was miskicked by Alex Langridge into the six-yard box where Michael Skelham tapped in to give Marchington the lead.
Just before half-time, Johnson was again called upon to make another impressive save from Fulford’s No7.
Malc Gardner came on to partner Langridge up front the the break and the Bull switched to a more familar 4-4-2 shape, allowing them to control the midfield.
On 65 minutes, a Richards long range effort was parried and fell to Gardner inside the six-yard box but he failed to convert.
The Bull had their best spell over the next 15 mins, with substitute and debutant Stewart Carter hitting the bar.
Marchington absorbed further pressure from Fulford but on 82 minutes, from yet another corner, they eventually succumbed.
After another wonder save from Johnson, he was unable to keep the second chance out and Fulford had equalised.
With just a minute left, Fulford picked up the ball in midfield and ran at the Bull defence.
The impressive No9 was put through on goal and Johnson hauled him down, the resulting penalty winning the game.
