UTTOXETER Juniors White’s stuttering season in the Burton & District Junior League continued with an unexpected defeat against Whittington Vipers.
Uttoxeter completely dominated the first half of the Taylor Made Flooring Under-10 Division One match and subjected Whittington to an unrelenting wave of pressure which should have put them out of sight by half-time.
However, although clever passing in midfield between George Beech and Ethan Newton Taylor and the constant goal threat of Jed Brunt promised a landslide, Uttoxeter found themselves just the one goal in front following a smart chip from George Beech.
Uttoxeter began the second half in the same vein but Whittington equalised from a free kick from the edge of the area.
A fiercely struck shot left goalie Oliver Lodge (pictured right) with no chance.
Worse was to follow as Whittington were awarded a penalty which was converted to establish a 2-1 lead.
Uttoxeter never recovered and the rest of the match saw Whittington rip through the visiting defence and midfield at will.
Four excellent saves from the outstanding Lodge kept the score down, but this was no consolation.
This was a game Uttoxeter, sat in mid-table, should have won.
They missed a chance to climb level on points with Mickleover Sports in the race for second place behind runaway leaders Belvedere Park Juniors Red.
