Double win for McCoy

IRISH raiders and Grand National winning trainer Gordon Elliott teamed up with champion jockey Tony McCoy to become an irresistible force at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Monday evening.

RACINGThe track rounded off its summer nights series of fixtures before the annual August break.

The 8-13 odds-on favourite Riverscape gave Tony McCoy victory in the Annual Boxholders at Uttoxeter Racecourse Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.

One hour later and the champ rode another winner for County Meath trainer Gordon Elliott, who saddled Silver Birch to win the world’s greatest steeplechase at Aintree in 2007.

This time it was Cape Secret at 9-2 in the Injured Jockeys Fund Selling Hurdle.

The 15-8 favourite Intac took the RWH Construction Beginners’ Chase, while Thenameescapesme (16-1) was victorious in the Meynell & South Staffordshire Hunt Handicap Chase.

Changing Lanes won a three-mile handicap chase at the corresponding fixture 12 months ago.

This time, he did it over the same distance but over hurdles in the James Derek Joynes Handicap Hurdle at 6-1.

The closing Jenkinsons Caterers Handicap Hurdle went to Mujamead (11-1).

After the races finished, the crowd was entertained by ‘The King of Rock and Roll’ in the Elvis tribute band.

McCOY, the current favourite for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award, prospered at Uttoxeter Racecourse’s second summer garden party racing fixture of the summer last week.

The 15-times champion jockey enjoyed two successes as he reinforced his position in his bid for a 16th title.

Appearing on a racecourse for the first time in 15 months, The Shoe (10- 11 favourite) — and in the hands of the Ulsterman — opened his account in Britain in the Braskem Stakes Beginners’ Chase.

A little over half an hour later and McCoy won with another market leader — 5-2 shot Vesey Lodge — in the first division of the NMU Birmingham Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Welsh trainers send out many winners at the racecourse, but a new name added to the list was that of Pembrokeshire permit holder Mary Evans — responsible for her homebred mare Maizy Missile at 8-1 in the Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

Three Ships was the 9-1 victory in the SIS Live Handicap Hurdle.
