ROCESTER manager Dave Shaw credits an excellent dressing room – and an increasingly potent strike force – with his side’s upsurge in form.

In just six games in charge Shaw has already equalled the number of wins recorded under Mark Kavanagh’s disappointing reign.

Shaw masterminded his side’s second victory in Saturday’s 4-2 success at struggling Heather St John’s.

“I always look at the stats and what has gone on in the past as something to measure myself by,” said the Rocester boss.

“If we score two on Saturday we will have equalled the number scored prior to my arrival – in less than half the games.”

Dan Brown has played a major role up front, with six goals in as many games following his brace at the weekend.

Shaw said: “You take his goals off and that’s a potential draw on Saturday – and a defeat in other games won.

“When you’ve that threat up front it gives confidence to those behind, who know you’ve always got a chance.”

Shaw will be hoping his star striker keeps his shooting boots on for tomorrow’s clash with sixth-placed Coleshill at Hillsfield, kick-off 3pm.

He said: “It’s a game we can get something out of. Hopefully they have a little bit of a hangover after being knocked out of the FA Vase.

“But I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between most of the sides in this league.”

The Romans will take their burgeoning team spirit and increased belief into the game.

“The atmosphere is a lot better,” said Shaw. “The lads all stand behind one another.

“The team spirit is there. The lads are enjoying it. It’s really good at the minute.

“All the lads that have come in have really gelled. We are having a good laugh as well and that makes such a difference.

“I think you need to have that at this level. You can take things too seriously, but then you can also not take things seriously enough.”

Shaw is also not afraid to show the different sides to his managerial character.

He said: “They know I’m approachable. But when they need a rollicking they’ll get one.”
