FINAL year pupils at a Marchington school have all passed the entrance exams to their next school.

Smallwood Manor Preparatory School saw its high achievements underlined, with 21 moving on to its sister school, Denstone College.

Another pupil has been accepted to the prestigious Lichfield Cathedral School and one to Abbots Bromley School.

Seven of the pupils headed to Denstone as well as the pupil going to Abbots Bromley School have been awarded scholarships or exhibitions based on their academic prowess and achievements in music, drama and sport.

To achieve entrance to Denstone College, every pupil must sit examinations in English, mathematics and science as well as undergo an interview with senior members of staff, including the headmaster.

The pupils who achieve the highest grades are then awarded scholarships or exhibitions.

Head teacher Mike Harrison said: “I am delighted that all of our final year pupils will start their next academic year at the school of their choice.

“It is a tremendous achievement that they have all showcased their individual skills their entrance exams and – in many cases – secured a scholarship or exhibition.”

Pupils who were awarded scolarships to Denstone College included Gabrielle Ireland, Francesca Faulder, Olivia Love, Charlotte White, Poppy Fenton, Ella Hurley and Caitlin James.

Arabella Welch was also awarded a scholarship to attend Abbots Bromley in the new school term.
