ABBOTSHOLME school has announced it is to host a prestigious showcase of vintage rally cars.
The Rocester school will be the venue for the start of the Historic Rally Car Register’s (HRCR) second Derbyshrie Dales Drive on Sunday, June 1.
The vintage cars will set off on their 130-mile route around Derbyshire Dales and mid-Staffordshire from Abbotsholme.
The school will also host drivers and navigators for lunch and welcome them back for the end of the tour.
An Abbotsholme spokesman said: “Abbotsholme is delighted to be hosting this event especially so because this year is Abbotsholme’s 125th anniversary of the school, with its founder Cecil Reddie opening Abbotsholme only three years after the birth of the modern automobile.”
Drivers will take in a host of winding country roads, with the southern loop of the course running through the valleys of the Rivers Blythe, Trent and Dove.
The northern section of the event ventures into the Staffordshire Moorlands, towards Tittesworth Reservoir, near Leek, before returning to Rocester.
Anyone who owns a suitable car and would like to enter the tour can do so by emailing HRCR secretary Peter Haynes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The event is open to ‘pre-1990 classic cars as well as later classics’.
