A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Rocester has died following a crash in Draycott-in-the-Clay.
The collision happened just before 4.30pm on Sunday on the B5017 between Six Lane Ends and Five Lane Ends, and involved a blue VW Golf convertible.
Sadly, the driver of the Golf was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being offered support by specially trained officers.
Formal identification has not yet taken place.
The road remained closed until around 8.45pm while specialist officers from the Collision Investigation Unit carried out an investigation at the scene.
Sgt Ian Tanner said: “We would like to thank motorists for their patience while the road was closed.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at this time and saw the
blue Golf involved prior to the collision. The Golf was travelling from the direction of Needwood from Five Lane Ends towards Six Lane Ends and Draycott-in-the-Clay.
“We are particularly keen to trace a silver car and a dark coloured car which are believed to have been travelling along the road at the same time as the Golf.”
Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 498 of May 18.
An ambulance, a paramedic support officer, a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a car that had come to rest on its roof in a field after leaving the road and travelling through a hedge.
“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the man, the driver of the car, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.”
