ROCESTER Wasps suffered a 3-1 defeat in the Under-11 Cup final against league leaders Hilton Harriers Jets at Moira Miners’ Welfare Club on Saturday.
Rocester began the game nervously, with Hilton taking the initiative and looking dangerous in the wide areas.
Midway through the half, after brilliant defending from Magnus Brown and George Walker had kept it goalless, the Jets took the lead from a corner, as a shot took a wicked deflection to beat goalkeeper and skipper Jenson Bosworth.
The Wasps’ heads went down a little but they got a major lifeline in the 20th minute as, whilst having a little bit of possession, they won a free kick just outside the area on the left.
Up stepped Brown, and he drilled the set piece though the wall, into the net.
A couple of half chances followed, with Henry Wallace having an effort blocked and Ethan Archer putting a chance wide.
Bosworth pulled off another handful of quality saves but Hilton scored a second before the break, when they attacked down the left, switched play and their right midfielder broke free to slot home.
The second period followed the same pattern as the first with Wasps finding it difficult to find forwards Kieran Swinson, Max Hunt and Charlie Cope.
The Jets attacked down the right, played some good one touch football on the edge of the box to release the left midfielder, who blasted the ball into the net.
Cope was denied by the keeper and Hunt twice saw shots charged down as Uttoxeter tried and failed to get back in the game.
