ROCESTER Juniors Hornets U11s slipped to a disappointing defeat against TS Sports Rovers.
A fairly even first half was peppered with the odd break from either side.
For Hornets, striker Nathan Winstanley showed his defence-beating pace and captain Conor O’Sullivan, his defensive dependability, while keeper Jack Wright continued to display with his confident handling skills.
TS Sports Rovers took the lead on 22 minutes. A fantastic corner was whipped into the Hornets box and while the Hornets defence played musical statues, a TS Sports forward got his head to the ball and powered past a helpless Wright. The goal seemed to temporarily spark Hornets into life with some good runs and shots from Lawrence, O’Sullivan and Winstanley.
However, the TS Sports keeper was rarely troubled and soon the referee had blown for half-time.
The second half was pretty much one-way traffic in favour of TS Sports Rovers, with Hornets unable to get into the match.
Rovers extended their lead on 37 minutes in similar circumstances to their first.
A corner was delivered into the box and Sports capitalised on the confusion, slotting the ball into the Hornets net.
It could have been a lot worse for Rocester. Only good interceptions from O’Sullivan, Joshua Parker and Okyanus Ari kept the TS Sports forwards at bay.
The last 15 minutes saw Hornets finally start playing – but it was too little too late.
Good shots from Lawrence and Winstanley were unlucky not to earn something from the game.
Good passes and crosses from Callum Ratcliffe, George Mothershaw and Liam Fletcher created some additional opportunities, but they found the TS Sports keeper in good form.
Hornets man-of-the-match: Conor O’Sullivan.
