A LACK of firepower ensured Rocester returned pointless from their long midweek trek to Stourport Swifts.
The Romans could only muster a scratch side for the journey, but competed in spells before eventually going down 3-0 on Tuesday evening.
The hosts pressed forward from the off, with attacking full-back Jordan Jones a real threat.
Jones fired just over Richard Froggatt’s goal on eight minutes after a threatening surge forward.
Both Daniel Wain and Tom Brown put in crucial challenges as the Romans looked to hold the early onslaught in check, while Jake Dennison headed clear off the line.
Rocester’s first real chance came in the 22nd minute, and was arguably the closest either side had come to opening the scoring.
Debutant Tyrone Wilson fed Dennison, and his deep cross was met at the far post by Simeon Lawrence who fired over at full stretch from inside the six-yard box.
The miss proved costly when Ashley Parsons-Smith smashed home an unstoppable shot to put Swifts in front on 27 minutes.
Lawrence fired a weak effort at Swifts keeper Sam Hawker after meeting Paul Whalley’s square ball.
But after opening the scoring it was Swifts who looked most likely to add to the goal tally before the interval - most notably when Wain headed clear an effort from Dan Parker.
Chris Morrison struck just wide shortly after the break, but the Romans had a golden opportunity to level on 49 minutes.
But Dan Brown’s goal-bound effort deflected to safety off the outstretched leg of a Swifts defender.
Rocester were again made to pay dearly, as just before the hour mark Swifts made it 2-0.
Jones’ initial effort was saved by Froggatt, but Lewis Pountney reacted quickest to slot home the loose ball.
A glaring miss from Morrison four minutes later saw Swifts pass up the chance to make it three.
Morrison almost turned provider a minute later when his lay-off to Pountney looked destined to result in a goal, only for Ryan Rutland-Jones to produce an excellent goal-line clearance.
Froggatt had to be on his best form to beat out a near post effort by Jamie Hyde, but when the Romans keeper palmed Pountney’s header from the resultant corner onto the bar, he was unlucky to see it drop to Morrison who made no mistake.
At three up the hosts could afford to relax a little, although Hawker was called upon to hold Dan Brown’s turn and shot.
The keeper also did brilliantly to get a touch on Brown’s wicked cross from the left to take it away from Rocester manager and substitute Dave Shaw in stoppage time.
