A DRIVER launched a road rage attack on a woman’s car after assaulting her boyfriend with two friends, a prosecutor has claimed.

Emma Thompson alleged that Gavin Moore rammed Lucy Guntripp’s car after beating Billy Newby with Uttoxeter friends Carl Groombridge and Patrick Leese.

Burton Magistrates’ court heard the alleged attack happened on September 20 last year in Ashbourne Road, Uttoxeter, after the woman left work when her partner said the trio had assaulted him.

Motorist Moore, 25, of Westhill, accompanied by Groombridge, 25, of Balance Street, and Leese, 18, of Bentley Road, followed Miss Guntripp, Mrs Thompson claimed.

As the alleged victim approached a slip-road and gave way to traffic, Moore ‘deliberately shunted her vehicle’, making its exhaust sound louder, she claimed.

He then allegedly followed Miss Guntripp at a roundabout in his nine-year-old black Vauxhall Corsa before using it to ram her vehicle again.

Miss Thompson claimed the woman sounded her horn in a bid to force Moore to stop, only for him to pull alongside, hurl an unidentified object at her windscreen and shout at her.

Moore then allegedly pulled in behind Miss Guntripp’s car and attempted to open one of its TURN TO PAGE FOUR

locked doors before shouting ‘baby killer’.

Miss Thompson said the alleged victim escaped in her car.

All three defendants denied assaulting Mr Newby and Moore pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving.

Miss Thompson said the motoring charge was suitable to be tried by the magistrates and David Ellis, defending, and the bench agreed.

Moore told them he wanted the charge to be tried at the magistrates’ court.

All three defendants were released on unconditional bail pending their trial on Friday, May 3, at Burton Magistrates’ Court.

Moore, Groombridge and Leese spoke only to confirm their names and addresses and to enter pleas.
