A FESTIVAL celebrating all things retro took over Uttoxeter Racecourse last weekend and will be back for an extra day next year after proving a huge success.

Retro Metal 2012 saw the Wood Lane venue packed with vintage cars, bikes, trucks, military vehicles, choppers and pretty much anything with wheels.

Hundreds of enthusiasts also enjoyed retro entertainment in the form of live music and a hugely popular roller disco.

Around 40 people took to their retro bikes for a ride-out around the site on the Saturday and there was mod and ska music playing in the bars across a funpacked weekend.

Organised by Lee Perry and Andrew Fowler the family-friendly festival attracted sizable crowds for its debut event and will back in Uttoxeter next year for three days.

Mr Perry told the Advertiser: “It went very well. It was a great turnout for our first show and we only had six months to organise it.

“The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic — really chilled out and familyorientated.

The venue was also really good.

“The weather was great for almost all of the weekend but the rain came down just at the end of the Sunday so we just missed a perfect weekend.

“We will definitely 100 per cent come back next year and make it a three-day event.

“We’ve learned a lot this year being our first time doing it and have lots of new ideas of how to take it forward and are already planning for it.”

The next big events at Uttoxeter Racecourse will be British Mini Day held by the British Mini Club on Saturday, September 2 before the rescheduled Peak Truck Show on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16.

That event was cancelled earlier this summer after torrential rain left parts of the racecourse and surrounding car parks underwater.
