UTTOXETER race-goers who want to be in with the chance of meeting the biggest-selling reggae band in UK history are being invited to enter a competition.

Readers of the Uttoxeter Advertiser are being offered the chance to meet UB40 when they take to the stage at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Saturday, May 17.

Anyone interested just needs to answer this question - UB40 had a number one hit in the UK singles charts in 1994 with Baby Come Back, but who also hit the top of the charts with the original version of the track in 1968?

All answers need handed in to the Uttoxeter News office, based at Advanced Consultancy, in Church Street, with a name, address and phone number before Friday, May 9.

The winner will received a pair of premier tickets to the UB40 race night with opportunity to meet and greet the band backstage after the show.

David MacDonald, executive director of Uttoxeter Racecourse, told the Advertiser: “UB40 are one of the most commercially successful acts of all time in terms of record sales, chart positions and touring schedules.

“We are so excited to be bringing them to Uttoxeter for what should be a fantastic occasion.”

UB40 will take to the stage approximately 15 minutes after last race has finished at 9.15pm.

Tickets are already selling fast, with between 300 and 400 punters snapping up tickets a week regularly as the Wood Lane course prepares for one of its busiest nights of the year.

UB40 is one of the world’s best-selling acts with more than 70 million record sales to their name, and hits such as Red Red Wine, One in Ten, Kingston Town and Can’t Help Falling in Love among some of the 20th century’s best-known hit singles.

The latter was a number one single in both the UK and America and the theme tune of the Hollywood blockbuster Sliver.

Throughout their career spanning 30 years they have been twice nominated for the Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards.

The bandmates continue to tour to sell-out arenas and festivals globally.

Gates will open on the day at 3.30pm, with the first race leaving the starting post at 5.35pm and last race at 8.50pm.

More information on the gig and tickets is available by visiting www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/fixture/17-may-2014/ or phoning the racecourse office on 01889 562561.
