IT IS thought several pubs in Uttoxeter will close their doors from this afternoon to accommodate Mark Groombridge's funeral.
The funeral takes place at St Mary's Church, in Church Street, from 1.30pm today.
And police officers have been visiting pubs urging them to be 'extra vigilant' as large numbers of mourners are expected to move into town after the service.
Town and borough councillor and Ye Olde Talbot landlord Andrew Riley said: "We're expecting extremely large numbers of mourners and officers came round the pubs and informed us we may need to be vigilant.
"Some pubs will close from 3pm for the remainder of the day and night but we're staying open and employing extra security staff, which others are doing too.
"We'll be showing a zero-tollerance policy to anyone who is excessively intoxicated or aggressive, as we always do.
"I'm fairly confident the night will go off without any trouble. The service should be a celebration of Mark's life with those who knew him well."
