UTTOXETER charities are being urged to come forward in a bid to benefit from a mammoth bike ride set to raise thousands – with only three weeks to get bidding.
The Talbot Charity Bike Club is set to hold its third annual ride, this year taking the challenge one step further with bikers cycling from Paris back to Uttoxeter.
Now, Andrew Riley, a member of the club, is asking charities to put themselves forward in a bid to benefit from the event, which last year raised £7.500 for the Art and Soul Friendship Group.
He told the Advertiser: “We are asking charities to come forward to become the nominated charity to receive the money raised.
“So far we have received nominations from Rakemark Respite, YESS and Art and Soul.
“We are inviting all charities to come forward and do a presentation and then we will select a charity.
“The charities really do benefit from the ride and we want to give them all the opportunities we can to apply for it.”
To apply for the cash charities need to write a letter explaining what they do and how they would use the money if they were chosen.
Applications for the funding need to be submitted by Friday, January 31.
Preparations for the epic ride, which will take place over six days from September 2 to 7, are currently being put in place with organisers needing to sort out clothing, accommodation, sponsorship and transport before it can go ahead.
However, they still need companies to come forward to sponsor the event and the club is asking anyone who can help to get in touch.
Councillor Riley added: “The ride is over six days due to the milage we will be covering.
“We are still in the early stages of planning it at the moment and we do need more sponsors to come forward to support us.
“The Uttoxeter Knights will be arranging out homecoming party again in conjunction with the bike club. We don’t know about a fly-past yet but we would like it.
“The lads are already out there training. They have started by doing 12 miles but we really need to be riding 85 miles before we are ready.
“On the hardest day we will do 97 miles.
“We have still got to get transport sorted and clothing and accommodation but we need sponsors to come forward so we can get it all sorted. One hell of a lot is put into it. If there is potential sponsors out there I would ask them to please contact me to get involved.”
Any charities wanting to put forward a bid or sponsors who want to help are asked to write to The Chairman, The Talbot Charity Bike Club, The Olde Talbot, 43 Market Place, Uttoxeter, ST14 8LP or call Councillor Riley on 07970 506834 or 01889 562626.
