CHILDREN’S favourite Peppa Pig was among the visitors to a special race day in Uttoxeter which welcomed the whole family.

Uttoxeter Racecourse opened its doors to more than 10,000 people at the Wood Lane venue for its Family Fun Day as the sun shone on the afternoon of racing.

CBeebies star Peppa Pig was joined by her brother George as a special guest to the racecourse to entertain the children.

Other attractions throughout the day included inflatables, fairground rides and pony rides for the children.

David MacDonald, executive director of Uttoxeter Racecourse told the Advertiser it was a perfect day.

He said: “A crowd of more than 10,000 adults and children enjoyed a wonderful day and we were so grateful for the sunshine.

“Many families had come to see Peppa Pig and George who appeared at regular intervals on a stage in the centre course and we just managed to ensure that thousands of expectant kids all got to meet their favourite characters.”

However, Mr MacDonald said the ‘inadequate’ train service at the end of the day did make it difficult for families wanting to get home after a day in the sun.

He added: “The only downside to a perfect day was the completely inadequate train service especially on the Stoke line.

“Thousands attempted to travel back on trains that were made up of only four carriages.

“I am very grateful to the local Uttoxeter police officers who came to assist and keep order on the platform.

“Upgrades to this service cannot come soon enough.”
