THE chair of governors at a school teaching Uttoxeter pupils has been chosen to help others repeat his success.
John Pennington, of Painsley Catholic College, was one of just 100 school governors across the UK to be appointed national leader of governance by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
He will now assume a role supporting other chairs of governors to improve their schools.
Successful candidates were invited to NCTL’s learning and conference centre in Nottingham for a formal induction and training for the role.
Stephen Bell, Painsley principal and accounting officer, said: “John is an exceptional chair of directors who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in terms of effective governance of both the primary and secondary sector.
“I am delighted that he has been designated to this prestigious role and I am confident that he will provide a first class line of support to other chair of governors and governing bodies in pursuit of excellence.”
Charlie Taylor, chief executive of the NCTL, said: “Governors are the people who appoint headteachers and hold them to account so they have an essential role to play as leaders in our schools.”
