A CHARITY bike ride taking in all the sights of Paris and everything in between as cyclists make their way back to Uttoxeter has received another welcome boost.

The Talbot Charity Bike Ride Club has been given another reason to celebrate after receiving £4,000 from Nivea for Men for the second year running.

It comes only a week after Uttoxeter’s Tesco store handed over a donation of £2,800 for the Paris to Uttoxeter bike ride.

Chairman Andrew Riley, who also represents Uttoxeter on the town council and East Staffordshire Borough Council, told the Advertiser that the team is delighted with the support they have received so far.

He said: “We were still riding high on the support of Uttoxeter Tesco and to get a sponsorship of £4,000 from Nivea, a national company, shows how far reaching the ride has become.

“This allows us to concentrate on attracting sponsors whose money will go directly to our chosen local charity.

“I can safely say on behalf of all the riders that we are truly grateful to both Nivea and Tesco.”

The members are looking for more sponsors to come forward to cover the cost of clothing, accommodation and transport.

The cyclists are currently training hard for the challenge set to start in Paris on September 2 with the members hoping to return back to the town on September 7.

Each year the club chooses a different charity from the area to raise valuable funds for with the Art and Soul Friendship Group last year receiving a cheque for £7,500 from the Edinburgh to Uttoxeter ride.

The official charity who will benefit from the ride is set to be unveiled with an official launch party at Uttoxeter Town Hall from 7.30pm on Saturday, March 22. Tickets cost £10 each and are available from the Ye Olde Talbot.

Sponsors who would like to support the ride are asked to phone Tina Hughes on 07790 415760.
