A UTTOXETER news agents has been given a reason to celebrate after raising more than £2.5 million for good causes.
JS News, in High Street, has now raised a staggering £2,603,627 for National Lottery Good Causes through sales of lottery products to the town’s players.
A new poster will be on display in the store to highlight this outstanding achievement and to remind National Lottery players of their ongoing contribution to life-changing good causes across the UK.
Jim Slater, of JS News, said: “I’m so proud that my customers have helped me to raise so much money for National Lottery Good Causes.
“I couldn’t believe the figure when my Camelot representative told me. It’s great news for our local area, as well as for communities across the UK – and I’ll definitely be talking to all of my customers about it.”
Each week, National Lottery operator Camelot generates more than £35 million for good causes.
To date, National Lottery players have raised more than £30 billion and counting, with more than 400,000 individual Good Cause awards made across the UK – an average of 128 lottery grants for every postcode district.
Duncan Malyon, sales director of Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be recognising our retail partners for the outstanding contribution they make – week in, week out – to society through selling National Lottery products.
“It’s a great way to remind them, and our players, that every ticket bought has life-changing potential – not only in terms of the chance to win huge amounts of money, but the fact that a percentage of every ticket sold goes to good cause funding that benefits people and communities throughout the UK.”
The new posters, which will appear in stores the length and breadth of the UK, will help to spread this message and encourage players to find out more about which organisations have benefited from lottery funding in their communities.
Olympian and National Lottery ambassador Sir Chris Hoy said: “It’s great that retailers across the country are doing such a fantastic job in contributing to the funds raised for the good causes.
“National Lottery funding is absolutely vital to a massive variety of projects. I know from my own experience the difference it’s made to sport in this country and that this funding touches communities across the nation.”
