Village market to return due to popular demand

Written byBY JAMES BRINDLE

FRUIT and vegetable markets will be returning to village near Uttoxeter this weekend after proving a roaring success before Christmas.

The markets, which were held outside Marchington Village Shop, saw produce sell-out in double quick time.

As a result the shop in Church Lane is planning a monthly market at the shop with the next two on the first Saturday of each month.

On Saturday the market will feature, in addition to a ‘spectacular’ range of fruit and vegetables fresh from the shop’s specialist wholesaler, a delivery of specialist breads from Spencers of Ashbourne.

Any items can be pre-ordered by this afternoon for pick up or delivery on Friday and Saturday by picking up an order form.

Then on Saturday, March 2 there will be fresh flowers from the flower market along with a range of local cheeses to try and buy as part of the ‘keep it local’ ethos’.

Organisers say they are very happy to take suggestions for future markets from customers and have asked for feedback via the shop’s Facebook page, website or in the shop itself.

Ideas so far include fish, delicatessen-style foods, spices and herbs, pies and local meats.

Market organiser and member of the Marchington Shop management committee, Tim Tams, said: “We’ve been really pleased with the response we’ve had so far and hope that villagers and surrounding communities continue to support our venture.”

The market runs from 9am onwards on Saturday.
