LOVE was in the air at a village hall near Uttoxeter as couples showed their romantic side over dinner and a quiz – while raising money for charity at the same time.

The Inner Wheel of Uttoxeter invited couples to celebrate the most romantic night of the year with a two course meal preceded by a St. Valentine’s Night quiz in Kingstone Village Hall.

Members of the town’s branch of the Inner Wheel Club put on their chef hats to prepare and serve the supper to 78 guests.

This include quiz masters extraordinaire Philip and Elspeth Knight, who were hosting the evening.

The winning team, Pony and Trap, took the home the prizes with a winning score of 90 out of a possible 110 points in the quiz.

A spokesman for the Inner Wheel said the event was accompanied by a well supported raffle which raised funds for the national organisation MacMillan Cancer Support and Careline, the local charity set up to alleviate loneliness among the elderly in the area with regular phone calls.

It was also boosting the fund-raising pot for the Wheels Project.

Members of the Inner Wheel of Uttoxeter raise money for various charities locally, nationally and internationally.

In the past these charities have included the Uttoxeter Mayor’s Fund, Uttoxeter Association for the Blind, St Giles Lymphoedema Clinic, Staffordshire Wildlife, Sight Savers, Canine Partners, Brainwave, Smile Train, 500 miles and Hamlyn Fistula.
