THE newest attraction at Alton Towers has been closed again following further technical difficulties.
The Smiler, the new record-breaking coaster which opened this year at Alton Towers Resort was closed at 5pm on Wednesday due to a technical issue.
A spokesman for Alton Towers said: "The Smiler was open to guests until approximately 5pm on Wednesday when it closed due to an unresolved technical fault.
"As you would expect from the UK's most famous Theme Park, all of the rides and attractions are expected to meet extremely high standards, technologically, mechanically and in terms of the end experience and a ride such as The Smiler, which utilises such cutting edge technology, can be subject to any number of technical difficulties.
"Whilst the current situation is therefore very disappointing and frustrating for our guests, and indeed our own Park team, every ride must live up to our exacting quality standards; this kind of teething problem is a feature of pushing the boundaries of ride technology to make ride experiences even more exciting for our visitors.
"The many thousands of people who have enjoyed the ride will agree that it is more than worth the wait.
"However, we are of course sorry for any disappointment caused and we are working with the ride manufacturer to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."
