A MAN has appeared before magistrates charged with firearms offences.

As well as being accused of possession of a shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence, Nadeem Mohammed is facing further charges of conspiring to commit robbery and possession of a bladed weapon.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mohammed made an appearance at Newcastle-under-Lyme Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Mohammed, of Hose Street, Stoke-on-Trent, was remanded in custody to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday, January 27.

Mohammed was arrested in the ‘Stoke-on-Trent area’ on Friday, January 3, along with a 25-year-old, also from the city, who remains on bail pending further inquiries.

The alleged offence was committed at around 8.20pm on Thursday, November 28, when it was reported that four masked men attempted to break into a house in Gorsty Hill, Tean.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “The householder was able to defend himself and the offenders made off.

“Detectives are continuing with a detailed and thorough investigation into the incident.

“They are still keen to hear from anyone who may have any information and ask them to ring 101, quoting incident 704 of November 28, 2013.

Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Mohammed’s court appearance follows a police appeal for information published in the Advertiser in December.
