Slimming star speaks of her emotional journey

Written byJOANNA CRAIG

AN AWARD-WINNING slimmer has lost four stone in an emotional weight loss journey recovering from a life-threatening illness.

Cathy Bell, 38, suffered a brain aneurism in 2012 and it was this traumatic experience which motivated her to embark on her weight loss journey.

The mother-of-three, who lives in Denstone College Grounds and attends the Wilfred House Slimming World group, has now won Slimming World’s Miss Slinky 2013.

Mrs Bell said: “My story with Slimming World started early in September 2012. I had been aware that I needed to do something about my weight for a while. I had six months earlier suffered from a ruptured brain aneurism during my weekly Zumba class.

“I was rushed to hospital and underwent a long procedure whereby platinum coils were inserted in to my brain to the blood vessel to stem the bleed.

“I lost my sense of taste, I felt constantly nauseous and sick, I could barely walk, was exhausted and pretty much confined to the bed.

“Despite my weakness and exhaustion, I recovered well enough to be allowed home.

“I had always been a fairly fit and active person even though I was heavier than I liked and my lack of energy was very frustrating.

“In September I walked into Dolly’s Tuesday class, was met by some friendly faces and my weight loss journey started.

“I didn’t tell anybody about my recent experience straight away because it was still very raw and emotional for me.

“Just over a year later I have reached my target weight loss of four stone and I feel stronger and fitter than I have ever felt before.

“Throughout my weight loss journey my group and consultant have always been totally supportive of my achievements and when things got tough, their advice, kindness and support renewed my enthusiasm.

“My advice to anyone thinking that they would like to change how they feel about themselves is to give Slimming World a go because the plan is easy, the food is so tasty and the support given from the consultant - especially Dolly - is first class.”

Dolly Lowdnes, consultant at the Uttoxeter Slimming World group said: “Cathy is one truly inspirational lady and one I admire so much.

“When she was voted our Miss Slinky 2013 she was delighted and so were we.”
