UTTOXETER ladies could be in for a treat this Christmas as the boys of the town’s rugby club peeled off their kit for a special charity calendar.
Uttoxeter Rugby Club braved the cold and the rather public surroundings of Oldfields Sports and Social Club earlier this month to complete the pictures.
Money raised from the calendar will go to support the Uttoxeter and District First Responders, a cause close to the hearts of everyone at Oldfields.
First XI player Paul Milward told the Advertiser the club wanted to do something a bit fun after having a difficult year following an on-field brawl last season which ultimately led to the team being relegated.
He said: “Chris Bassett and I got elected to the social committee for this year with the aim of bringing a bit of fun back to the club after the troubles of last year.
“We also wanted to do something for our chairman’s chosen charity — the first responders.
“There were lots of ideas and one was the calendar which we had done in 2005 and we wanted to replicate the success of that.
“We want to do a lot of charity work for the first responders as they have a lot of involvement with the club as when we have had bad injuries during the games they are always the first on the scene.” Mr Milward said his teammates were only too happy to take their kit off for the cause despite the cold weather.
He said: “It was quite dangerous on the day as obviously Oldfields is quite a public place and also it was a cold morning! “We went at a quick pace to get it done and the lads really enjoyed it as they are quite willing to take their kit off on a regular basis.
“The calendars are being printed this week and we hope to launch it on Saturday at Oldfields when Big Lix will be performing as well.
“We urge everyone to purchase a copy as the ideal Christmas present for family and friends alike.
“We would like to thank our sponsors, without whom the calendar would not have gone ahead — Town Electrical Distributors, Steve Foster Crane Hire, KJL Photographic, Import Direct, TFD, Gary Thorley Plumbing and Rematch Sports.” The calendar will be available for £5 from Paul Milward on 07976 366569 and Chris Bassett on 07929 201128. They will also be available from Oldfields Club.
