A SCHEME to build 49 new homes in Uttoxeter has moved a step closer after outline plans were submitted to planning chiefs.
The regeneration team at East Staffordshire Borough Council has recently submitted an outline planning application for residential development on land off Pennycroft Lane.
The authority said the submission of the application is an important milestone in the Uttoxeter regeneration programme, which aims to bring new high quality homes and higher levels of employment to Uttoxeter.
The application states the plans have been amended to increase the number of houses from the 35 originally planned for to 49, which would include affordable housing.
It states: “The development of this site will form a natural extension to the residential area of Uttoxeter town centre, providing housing land to the benefit and regeneration of Uttoxeter and its surrounding areas.
“The development and enhanced landscaping of the application site will significantly improve what is currently an industrial employment site of low aesthetic value.”
It also said it will improve links between the existing residential area and proposed development, with public footpaths running across the edge of the site.
In 2008 a development brief was produced which identified the council’s aspiration to see mixed use development of land to the north east of Uttoxeter.
The outline planning application for Pennycroft Lane follows the application for employment use on land to the north east of Dove Way currently under consideration.
Councillor Richard Grosvenor, leader of the council, said: “The two planning applications together represent real progress in turning the aspiration for mixed use development of this part of Uttoxeter, into reality.
“Residential development on Pennycroft Lane would form a natural extension to recent successful residential development in the area, and future planned development on land to the east.
“The council will be seeking to work with owners of businesses who currently operate on the site and supporting them to identify suitable relocation opportunities.”
