A UTTOXETER resident has raised concerns with the policing of the town’s new one-way system, questioning whether penalty fines will be issued for those who are flaunting the new rules.
Mandy Hales, PCSO for Uttoxeter reported that since the introduction of a one-way system at the junction of Balance Street and Market Street, motorists have continually flaunted the rules.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “As far as I am aware it is a criminal offence under the Road Traffic Act, to go the wrong way down or up a one way street.
“Is it time for the police to start issuing a few tickets, for the message to get across?
“Do we have to wait for a fatality?”
The new county council measures aim to improve the safety and traffic flow at busy times.
Uttoxeter’s county councillor, Geoff Morrison said: “We want to make the town safe for children and pedestrians.”
At the time of going to press, police were unavailable for comment on whether fines would be issued.
