Smallwood Manor pupils make choirA VILLAGE school near Uttoxeter has continued to celebrate its long tradition of musical excellence with the news that five pupils have been selected to join the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.
Smallwood Manor Preparatory School pupils Francesca Faulder, 9, Luke Hurley 11, Poppy Moseley, 9, Jack Cottle, 10, and Ella Hurley, 9, were all selected to join the choir after taking part in a demanding audition in Birmingham.
To join the choir, each of the five pupils needed to demonstrate their ability in an aural test and sing scales, before performing a piece from their music grade repertoire from memory. All five pupils have received musical and singing tuition at Smallwood Manor.
Mike Harrison, head teacher at Smallwood Manor in Marchington, said: “Congratulations to our five pupils and our director of music, Mrs O’Brien, who helped them to prepare for the auditions.
“Places in the choir are extremely sought after and this will give them the opportunity to learn alongside top musicians as well as perform both nationally and internationally.”
