Majestic bids to open wine store on retail park

THE UK'S largest wine retailer looks set to fill one of the remaining spaces at a Uttoxeter retail park bringing new jobs to the town.

Majestic Wine Warehouse has earmarked the ground floor of unit 3 of Dovefields Retail Park in Town Meadows Way for a new outlet.

The plans are revealed in a planning application submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council for the unit underneath what is now the home of Uttoxeter Dental Practice (pictured), between KFC and The Dapple Grey pub.

It is believed the retailer will create three new jobs should it get the green light to open the warehouse.

In a supporting statement submitted with the plans the Cambridge- based retailer expressed its reasons for wanting to move to the town.

It said: “With a high volume of stock held on site, Majestic typically require units circa 3,000-4,000sq ft in size.

“To this end, Majestic has identified the ground floor unit of building 3, Dovefields Retail Park, as an ideal location from which to trade in Uttoxeter, a town which Majestic have identified as one in which they wish to trade.” As part of the plans Majestic proposes to make minor changes to the building and access, as well as utilising the adjacent car park to greater effect.

Majestic Wine was established in 1980 to distribute and sell an extensive range of wines, beers and spirits with ancillary products to the public, and trade via wine warehouse style outlets.

The company now has in excess of 175 ‘destination’ warehouses nationwide and it says it differs significantly from traditional offlicences.

Stock will be distributed to the Uttoxeter store from a central warehouse by lorry and generally only one delivery is made to each store per week within trading hours.

It is estimated that a further two or three deliveries are made by external suppliers.

A decision on the plans is due next month.
