JOBSEEKERS across Uttoxeter are set to be given the chance of landing a dream vacancy as the town’s struggling job market is given a welcome boost.
The Job Opportunities Day is set to welcome residents on the look-out for employment from 9.30am to noon tomorrow at Uttoxeter Town Hall, in High Street.
The event has been organised by Orbit Heart of England, a housing association, in a joint effort with East Staffordshire Borough Council and other partner agencies in the East Staffordshire Worklessness Action Group.
Organisers said that despite the unemployment rate falling across Britain, with the latest East Staffordshire figures, released by the Office for National Statistics, revealing the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) had dropped from 1,783 to 1,675 during July – a drop of 108, people are still finding it difficult to find work.
Simon Farneti, community housing officer for Orbit Heart of England, said: “The Job Opportunities Days have been phenomenally successful and we know they work.
“At our last event, more than 250 people attended. Of the 256 job opportunities on offer, three were filled on the day and a further 129 interviews and future appointments arranged.”
The organisers are keen to hear from businesses from across East Staffordshire who are looking for employees.
Anyone who would like to book a stand is asked to phone Mr Farneti on 03458 500500.
The Worklessness Action Group is a partnership between the borough council, Orbit Heart of England, Trent and Dove Housing, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Business Enterprise Support, East Staffordshire Children’s Centre, Job Centre Plus and ESCVS.
The aim of the group is to take jobs, training and support to key areas of the community.
