A WOMEN’S club raising valuable funds for charity has celebrated its 68th charter anniversary.
The village hall at Ellastone was last week transformed by the Inner Wheel Club of Uttoxeter to celebrate the milestone occasion.
The celebration saw 90 members and their guests from other local WI clubs shared a Fellowship tea prepared by the Uttoxeter club members.
The speaker for the afternoon was Hugh Davies who enthralled his audience with stories of the women of the FANY (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry).
Originally FANY was an organisation which provided drivers during two world wars, as portrayed by Sam Stewart in Foyle’s War.
However, during the process of the wars they became the source of the volunteers who risked their own lives working in secret as agents with the Special Operations Executive (SOE).
A spokesman for the Inner Wheel Club of Uttoxeter said: “All agreed it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.”
