A FORMER firefighter has put pen to paper to publish his first self-help book covering a ‘wide spectrum of life’.
David Blakemore, of Torrance Grove, Uttoxeter, has published The Illusion Theory which is aimed at young men and women about to embark on their exciting adult life to the slightly more mature individual who feels that the years have simply not turned out as expected.
This will be the author’s first book but not the first time he has seen his work in print as before his 30 year career with the fire service he did have newspaper and magazine articles published and was runner up in a Signal Radio romance writing competition where he had his story read out live on the radio.
The 59-year-old said he has always enjoyed a love of reading and writing, which is a family trait as he grandfather owned a book shop in Leek.
He said: “I have spent 30 years in the fire service helping people and I guess it is just an extension of that which inspired me to write really.
“Additionally, I have had my own ups and downs over the years with all the things that most of us experience as the years go by, relationships, illness and finance matters so writing a book that offers advice I wish I had known 30 years ago seemed like an exceptionally good idea.
“I also studied psychology more recently as I am interested in the way human beings behave.”
The Illusion Theory aims to show its readers how to achieve their dreams and Mr Blakemore said it contains absolutely everything they need to change and accomplish the life they have always desired.
It has 18 chapters covering a wide spectrum of life including image, planning, money matters, health, happiness and fitness, relationships, personal and spiritual growth, work life balance, friends and family, learning and education and dealing with awkward people.
Mr Blakemore said: “Everyone has times in their life when things do not go right and fate throws obstacles in their way, from the young adults just starting out in life through to the older generation who sit back, look at life and think ‘is this all there is?’
“Be the reader young or old, the Illusion Theory seeks to give guidance, hints, tips and ideas that may ease that passage and turn life around giving you the success and happiness you desire. This is the main concept of the book. Hopefully the advice in the Illusion Theory will be of benefit to the readers in their own lives.
“I hope people will enjoy reading The Illusion Theory. I anticipate individuals will look back and say, reading The Illusion Theory definitely altered my life.”
Mr Blakemore, who lives with his wife Sallyann and has studied psychology at degree level, is now working on Beyond the Horizon which is a tale of the supernatural and he anticipates it will available early next year.
The Illusion Theory is published by Amazon for download to a Kindle. It can also be borrowed from the Kindle Owners Library.
