Written byBY JAMES BRINDLE

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a woman’s prison near Uttoxeter at the weekend.

Fire crews from Kingsway station in Derby and Burton attended a fire at HMP Foston Hall Prison, at 5.17pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said a curtain had caught fire in a cell in the remand area of the facility.

The fire was ‘out on arrival’ and firefighters were only required to inspect, and left the scene at 5.40pm.

Police are investigating the fire.
