A GROUP of Uttoxeter middle school pupils have been developing their creative talents in a fashion project in conjunction with corporate clothing designers.
The year eight pupils at Windsor Park Middle School were tasked with refashioning, and restyling plain t-shirts to create a garment to reflect street style.
Textile equipment and garments were provided by Dimensions, based at Castle Donington, and Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC), along with designers from the company who visited the school, sharing their tips, skills and advice.
The Design Technology department took pupils through the whole design process, looking at the brief, research analysis, professional techniques for concept sketches, a variety of textiles technique workshops and then finally their own manufacture of the garment.
The budding designers then visited BSDC to complete their project by taking part in a fashion show and photo shoot, in conjunction with a range of departments across the college.
Windsor Park Design Technology teachers Lisa Wilbraham-Jones and Rachel Edwards said: “This project has given learners an insight into working to a live brief with an industry partner, along with giving them the opportunity to find out more about the exciting options available to them in the future.”
