Draycott show returns to the summer scene

FAIR-GOERS are in for a treat as a major summer show near Uttoxeter is brought back to life after the recession led to its postponement last year.

Draycott ShowPreparations are under way for the Draycott Show which will be held at Grange Farm, in Main Road, Draycott in the Clay, on Sunday, September 5.

Attractions already confirmed for the major social event include vegetable, flower and craft classes, a fair ground, a dog show and a horse show and the main arena attraction will be Extreme, a motorcycle stunt team.

New chairman Mark Gardiner, a local farmer and businessman, said: “The newly formed committee would like to ensure the show continues after its absence last year.” He said he is pleased to be associated with the show and it is most important that this long standing traditional village show continues to provide a family fun day out for the local community.

Last year the economic downturn forced disappointed organisers to postpone the show, which is one of the biggest shows in the area, as the then organiser Sallie Blair said the committee was mindful of financial burdens on the show’s supporters.

However, the year before saw record numbers of people out in the rain to patronise the show with around 2,000 fair-goers attending for the 100th show in its history.

Former world champion motor-cross rider Jason Smyth and his Adrenaline Tour accompanied JCB’s famous diggers to draw in record crowds to the quiet East Staffordshire village.

More than 30 local traders sold their produce, ranging from the farmer’s market to jewellery and craft stands.

Anyone wishing to lend a hand in the shows preparations or offer their services will be ‘most gratefully received’.

Anyone wanting to make any enquires or offer their assistance with the event is asked to telephone Sue Murby on 01283 820287.
