THE only way was Slimming World for a reality television star as he helped celebrate this year’s most successful slimmers.
The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright met Uttoxeter slimming group coach Dolly Lowndes as part of the weight-loss organisations annual awards ceremony in Birmingham.
Wright, who also took to the jungle as a contestant in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, joined Slimming World’s founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE to host the ceremony. He said: “Presenting the Slimming World Awards was a real honour. I was absolutely blown away by the people who joined us on stage. I couldn’t believe how much weight they’d lost and what a difference it had made to their lives – they were like completely different people. In fact, throughout the day I met so many fantastic people, not only the slimmers collecting awards but also amazing people like Dolly who run the Slimming World groups and help them achieve so much.
“Staying in shape is something that I have to work hard at myself and I know it’s not always easy, but from what I learned at the event Slimming World’s eating plan is such a great way to lose weight without feeling hungry. Everyone commented that having the support of someone like Dolly and the group is really important too. I really feel the people of Uttoxeter are very lucky to have such a great support network on their doorstep.”
Ms Lowndes, who runs weekly groups at Wilfred House every Tuesday, said meeting Mark was the perfect ending to a great year for the Uttoxeter group and the organisation as a whole.
She said: “But there’s still a lot of work to be done. With one of the highest levels of obesity in Europe right here in the UK, we want to help even more people to slim down.”
